IAF Conducts First-Ever Night Landing At Gotama Airstrip Ahead Of Nuapada Bypoll

Key Points

The maneuver was carried out ahead of the upcoming Nuapada by-election to facilitate the secure transport of polling parties to Maoist-affected booths in the Sunabeda region.
Nuapada, Nov 9: In a landmark operation, an Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft successfully executed its first night landing at the Gotama airstrip in Nuapada district.

The maneuver was carried out ahead of the upcoming Nuapada by-election to facilitate the secure transport of polling parties to Maoist-affected booths in the Sunabeda region.

To enable safe night operations, the district administration had earlier instructed the Works Department to install infrared lighting compatible with Night Goggle Vision (NGV) technology.

The equipment was swiftly procured from Delhi and installed on November 8.

The test landing took place at 8:10 PM under the direct supervision of Nuapada Collector and District Election Officer Madhusudan Das.

Officials hailed the successful operation as a critical step in ensuring smooth and secure polling in remote and sensitive areas.

The deployment of IAF aircraft for election logistics underscores the heightened security measures and logistical preparedness in place for the bypoll, especially in regions vulnerable to extremist activity.
