Police Seize Trucks Linked To Suspected Cross-Border Shipment, Probe On

Key Points

The consignment was being transported via two boats from Bangladesh and was being loaded onto three trucks at the Bahabalpur estuary
Balasore, Nov 9: A suspicious consignment allegedly originating from Bangladesh has been intercepted at Bahabalpur in Odisha’s Balasore district.

According to reports, the consignment was being transported via two boats from Bangladesh and was being loaded onto three trucks at the Bahabalpur estuary for onward transport to West Bengal.

Acting on suspicion, the Bahabalpur Marine Police intercepted the trucks and later detained two boats involved in the operation. However, reports suggest that one of the boats managed to escape.

Authorities have yet to confirm the contents of the trucks, and it remains unclear whether the consignment involved smuggled goods.

The incident has raised serious questions about the use of inland waterways for cross-border transport, especially in the absence of clear regulatory oversight.

The late-night operation and the mysterious nature of the cargo have triggered a wave of speculation and concern among locals.

The police have launched an investigation to determine the origin, nature, and intended destination of the consignment.

As the probe continues, officials are also examining the possibility of a larger smuggling network operating along the coastal and riverine routes between Bangladesh and eastern India.
