Weather Update / Heatwave Conditions Likely to Persist in Odisha for Five Days, Yellow Warning Issued

Bhubaneswar, Apr 20: The India Meteorological Department's (IMD) regional centre informed that the ongoing heatwave conditions in Odisha will continue for another five more days.
According to the weather department, hot and humid conditions likely to prevail in parts of the state while light to Moderate rain or thunderstorm is also very likely to occur.
On Sunday, Titlagarh recorded the highest temperature at 42.7°C, while 16 districts reported maximum temperatures above 40°C. The IMD has issued a Yellow Warning for Sambalpur and Balangir, cautioning residents of unusually warm nights. Coastal Odisha, including 11 districts, has also been placed under a Yellow Alert due to hot and humid conditions.
In addition, seven districts—Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj—have been warned of possible thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and rainfall. The IMD has forecast that heatwave conditions will intensify from April 21, particularly in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, and Balangir, where a Heatwave Warning has been issued.

Despite the possibility of isolated thunderstorms, the overall temperature trend is expected to remain unchanged for the next six to seven days. The prolonged spell of extreme heat has raised concerns over public health, with authorities urging people to stay hydrated, avoid direct exposure to the sun, and take necessary precautions.
