Sambalpur, Sept 4: In response to increasing inflow from the upper catchment areas, authorities at Hirakud Dam have opened four additional sluice gates of the reservoir.
With this, the excess water is being released from ten gates of the reservoir.
As of the latest update, the water level at Hirakud Dam stands at 626.23 feet, approaching the full reservoir level of 630 feet. The dam is currently receiving an inflow of approximately 2,15,644 cusecs of water per second, prompting the need for enhanced discharge capacity.
Officials have assured that the situation is being closely monitored and that the gate operations are in line with standard flood management protocols.
Local administrations have issued advisories urging residents along the Mahanadi River to remain cautious and avoid venturing near the riverbanks.
