Bargarh, Mar 9: As many as four members of a family were killed while two others sustained critical injuries in a road accident at Mehana Chhak under Rusuda outpost limits in Bargarh district.

The deceased have been identified as Dayasagar Padhan, Santosh Padhan, Shreyans Padhan, and Kahara Padhan, all residents of Ghatijampali village under Binika police station in Sonepur district.

According to reports, the devastating accident took place at around 9 PM at Mehana Chhak when a Bolero vehicle collided head-on with two motorcycles carrying six family members returning home from a wedding.

The impact was so severe that four people died on the spot, including a woman and a five-year-old child.

On being informed, Rusuda police rushed to the scene and rescued the injured to Burla Hospital.

While four of them were declared dead upon arrival, Suman Padhan and Soumya Ranjan Padhan are undergoing treatment in critical condition.

Police have seized the Bolero vehicle and arrested the driver, identified as Suman Patel.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the collision, including whether reckless driving or negligence was involved.

The tragedy has cast a pall of grief over the community, with residents mourning the sudden loss of multiple family members. Police have assured strict action and a thorough probe into the accident.
