Kendrapara, Sep 21: A tragic incident unfolded off the coast of Tantiapala in Mahakalapada block of Kendrapara district, where a fisherman was found dead in his boat while his son went missing after the two ventured into the sea for fishing.

The deceased has been identified as Bijay Parida, a resident of Tantiapal village under Lanjuda Panchayat.

According to reports, Bijay and his son Manas had ventured into Gahirmatha sea for fishing on Saturday but failed to return home, prompting concern among locals and family members.

A complaint was lodged and accordingly local marine police launched a search operation and recovered Bijay’s body from the boat.

Preliminary reports suggest that Bijay may have died due to a lightning strike, although the exact cause is yet to be confirmed. His son Manas remains untraced, and search efforts are underway.

Authorities have initiated a probe to determine the circumstances surrounding the death and disappearance.
