Fire Mishap / Fire Breaks Out During Coal Loading At Paradip Port

Key Points
Paradip, Nov 30: A fire incident was reported at Paradip Port late last night during loading operations of coal. Thick smoke was seen emerging from a ship docked at the Chennai Radha berth, where thermal coal was being loaded through a conveyor belt.
Following the incident, authorities immediately shifted the vessel to the CQ-2 berth to contain the situation.
Initial investigations suggest that the fire may have been
triggered because water was not sprayed on the coal during loading. Thermal
coal, which is generally hot, requires water spraying before loading to prevent
combustion.
