Following the incident, authorities immediately shifted the vessel to the CQ-2 berth to contain the situation.

Paradip, Nov 30: A fire incident was reported at Paradip Port late last night during loading operations of coal. Thick smoke was seen emerging from a ship docked at the Chennai Radha berth, where thermal coal was being loaded through a conveyor belt.

Following the incident, authorities immediately shifted the vessel to the CQ-2 berth to contain the situation.

Initial investigations suggest that the fire may have been triggered because water was not sprayed on the coal during loading. Thermal coal, which is generally hot, requires water spraying before loading to prevent combustion.

Firefighting teams at the port acted swiftly to control the blaze, and no casualties have been reported. Operations at the berth were temporarily halted as a precautionary measure.

Port officials have confirmed that the situation is under control, and further inquiry is underway to determine lapses in safety protocols.

The incident has sparked discussions about stricter monitoring of coal handling procedures at Paradip Port.
