Key Points
Deo Dam, also known as Hatibari Dam is about 21 km from Karanjia and around 120 km from the district headquarters, Baripada.
Mayurbhanj, Oct 21: A section of the bank along the Deo Dam’s left canal, which runs through Kadambeda village under the Rasamtala Panchayat in Karanjia block, collapsed on Sunday evening due to heavy rainfall in the region.
Following the disaster, villagers blamed the quality and quantity of product used during the construction work of the canal.
According to villagers, the canal was built using only chips and sand, with minimal reinforcement from iron rods. They alleged that the substandard materials and lack of structural integrity led to the canal wall giving way under pressure from the rising water levels.
As a result, dam water overflowed and flooded nearby farmland, leaving the area heavily waterlogged. Residents are now in distress as the village’s sole connecting road has been completely submerged.
