Bhubaneswar, Oct 30: Cyclone Montha, which had earlier intensified into a severe cyclonic storm, has now weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

According to the latest bulletin by the weather department, the system currently lies over east Vidarbha and adjoining south Chhattisgarh, moving north-northwestward.

Odisha, which had been bracing for potential impact, experienced light to moderate rainfall across several districts.

However, the state government remains on high alert until October 31, with precautionary measures in place to address any residual effects of the storm.

While Odisha escaped major damage, neighbouring states such as Andhra Pradesh and Telangana reported incidents of flooding, uprooted trees, and disrupted transport.

The IMD continues to monitor the system’s movement and has advised caution in areas likely to receive rainfall over the next 48 hours.
