Gajapati, OCt 29: Cyclone Montha has unleashed heavy rainfall and strong winds across parts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, resulting in one confirmed fatality and multiple injuries.

The storm made landfall on Tuesday (October 28, 2025) night, crossed the Andhra Pradesh and Yanan coasts between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, to the south of Kakinada, said the India Meteorological Department.

In Andhra Pradesh, one person lost their life due to cyclone-related incidents.

Among the injured are three individuals, including an auto-rickshaw driver, who sustained serious injuries during the storm’s peak intensity.

Emergency services have been deployed across affected districts, and relief centers have been activated to assist displaced residents.

In Odisha, Gajapati district has emerged as the most severely affected area.

Torrential rains and gusty winds have caused damage to property and disrupted transportation. The state government has set up over 2,000 relief centers and deployed National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams to manage the situation.

Schools and colleges across both states remain closed as a precautionary measure, and authorities continue to monitor water levels and infrastructure damage.
