Cuttack, Oct 7: The Bharatpur Police have arrested a man for allegedly inciting violence through provocative and caste-based remarks on social media.
The accused, identified as Pradeep Chandra Sahoo, was taken into custody by Bharatpur Police following a detailed monitoring operation by the Commissionerate Police.
Sahoo, a resident of Brahmeshwarpatna under Badagada police limits, had reportedly been posting inflammatory content repeatedly on social media platforms. His posts included casteist slurs, derogatory language, and abusive comments that were deemed capable of disturbing communal harmony in the city.

The arrest comes in the wake of recent unrest in Cuttack, where authorities had imposed curfew-like restrictions in several areas to maintain law and order. With tensions running high, the police intensified surveillance of digital platforms to curb misinformation and hate speech.
According to officials, Sahoo’s posts were flagged during routine social media monitoring. Upon verification, the content was found to be in violation of public safety norms, prompting immediate legal action.
The Commissionerate Police have urged citizens to refrain from sharing or believing in rumours and to use social media responsibly. “We are committed to maintaining peace and will take strict action against anyone spreading hate or inciting violence,” a senior officer stated.
This arrest serves as a warning to those misusing digital
platforms to spread divisive content. Authorities have reiterated that freedom
of expression must be exercised within the bounds of law and public decency.
