Cuttack, Oct 7: After 36 hours of restrictions, curfew has been lifted in Cuttack, restoring normalcy to the city known for its communal harmony. The decision was announced by the Police Commissioner, who confirmed that the situation is now under control and peaceful.

 

The curfew, which was imposed across 13 police station areas, was a precautionary measure following recent unrest. Authorities ensured tight security, deploying forces in sensitive zones to prevent any untoward incidents. Fortunately, no major disturbances were reported during the curfew period.

Internet services, which had been suspended since 7 pm on Sunday (Oct 5) as part of the security protocol, will remain offline until 7 pm, Tuesday (Oct 7). The administration is closely monitoring the situation and will restore connectivity based on ground assessments.

So far, 10 individuals have been arrested in connection with the unrest. The police have appealed to the public not to believe in rumours and to cooperate with authorities to maintain peace.

The Police Commissioner emphasized that law enforcement remains vigilant and will continue to monitor sensitive areas. “Peace has returned, but we are keeping a close watch. Internet services will be restored soon, and we urge citizens to avoid spreading or believing in misinformation,” he said.

 

The city is gradually returning to its routine, with shops reopening and traffic resuming in most areas.
