Beauty Mohanty Case / Three Special Teams, Digital Forensics Deployed in Chauliaganj IIC Death Probe: Cuttack DCP

Cuttack, Jul 17: The Commissionerate Police constituted three special teams to investigate the death of Chauliaganj Police Station Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Beauty Mohanty, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Cuttack Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo said on Friday.
Addressing the media, the DCP said each team has been assigned a specific aspect of the investigation.
"The first team has collected the post-mortem report and other important documents related to the incident. The second team is examining Mohanty's final communication and activities before her death, while the third team is focusing on scientific and digital evidence," he said.
The DCP also said police have received a partial digital forensic report from the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL).
The data recovered from Mohanty's mobile phone is being analysed, while further verification is underway as the forensic findings have been received in different formats, he added.
According to a source, an officer of Additional DCP rank is supervising the investigation, while DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo is personally monitoring the progress of the case. Police officials are also maintaining regular contact with Beauty Mohanty’s family members and seeking their cooperation during the investigation.
At present, police have registered an unnatural death (UD) case in connection with the incident. The DCP clarified that a UD case is registered when the circumstances surrounding a death require investigation to determine the actual cause. A written complaint is not mandatory for registering such a case.
Police further stated that if any suspicious evidence emerges during the investigation, a regular criminal case will be registered immediately.
As part of the inquiry, individuals who had digital communication with Beauty Mohanty or interacted with her inside the police station on the day of the incident were also questioned.

It can be mentioned here that Beauty Mohanty was found dead inside her official quarters at the Chauliaganj Police Station on July 4.
Afterwards, a preliminary autopsy report, prepared by the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology (FMT) at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, was submitted to Mangalabag Police Station on July 7.
As per police sources, the preliminary findings indicated that the lady IIC died due to asphyxia. However, officials clarified that the final conclusion regarding the exact cause of death will be determined after the viscera analysis report is received.
