Cuttack, Jul 7: The post-mortem examination of Chauliaganj Police Station Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Beauty Mohanty attributed her death to asphyxia, a source said Tuesday.
The preliminary autopsy report, prepared by the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology (FMT) at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, has been submitted to Mangalabag Police Station.
Preliminary Findings Released
Police sources said the preliminary report states that Mohanty died due to asphyxia. However, officials clarified that the final opinion on the cause of death will depend on the results of the viscera analysis, which is expected to provide further forensic evidence.
The post-mortem was conducted by a specially constituted medical board at SCB Medical College following the officer's death on July 4.
Investigation Continues on Multiple Fronts
The autopsy findings come as police continue a comprehensive investigation into the death of the senior police officer.
A special investigation team comprising two inspectors-in-charge (IICs), an additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) and an assistant commissioner of police (ACP) has been constituted to probe the case.
Earlier, police had seized Mohanty's mobile phone and sent it to a forensic laboratory for examination. Her social media chats, call records and bank account details are also being scrutinised. Statements of her husband and two sisters have already been recorded.

Meanwhile, Mohanty's brother questioned the preliminary assessment of suicide and alleged that it could be a case of murder. He had claimed to have noticed marks on her body and demanded a thorough post-mortem examination.
Awaiting Final Forensic Opinion
Beauty Mohanty was found dead inside her official quarters at Chauliaganj Police Station on the morning of July 4 after colleagues reportedly forced open the door when she did not respond to repeated phone calls.
