Puri, Nov 23: Panic spread among locals and tourists after a crocodile was sighted near the Pir Jahania sea beach, close to the Devi River estuary in Astaranga, Puri district.

According to reports, the reptile was seen swimming close to the shore, causing alarm among residents and visitors.

Locals claim that crocodiles have been spotted in the area on multiple occasions, but no concrete action has been taken by the Forest Department, leading to growing resentment.

Residents of the riverbank villages, who depend heavily on the river for their daily needs, have demanded that the crocodile be captured at the earliest to prevent any mishap.

Responding to the situation, the Forest Department has formed two teams to track the crocodile at Pir Jahania beach and Chandrabhaga beach.

Meanwhile, authorities have imposed restrictions on sea bathing for tourists until the search operation is completed.
