Cuttack, Apr 25: A couple was critically injured after an ‘Ama Bus’ allegedly rammed into their stationary motorcycle from behind on Cantonment Road in Cuttack on Saturday morning, a source informed.

Eyewitnesses said the husband and wife were standing with their bike when the bus struck them, leaving both seriously injured. Locals immediately shifted the injured to SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

Tension escalated soon after the accident as angry residents gathered at the spot, detained the bus driver and allegedly assaulted him. Cops from Cantonment police station reached the scene, brought the situation under control and took the driver into custody for questioning.

In a separate incident on April 3, Additional DCP Krushna Chandra Sethi was injured after being hit by an Ama Bus while cycling near Bhubaneswar Club. He was taken to a hospital after sustaining injuries.

Ama Bus Accidents Under Scanner
The incident adds to growing concerns over road safety involving buses operated by Capital Region Urban Transport.

As per data shared in the Assembly last month, 32 major accidents involving Ama Bus services were reported across Odisha during 2024 and 2025, resulting in 14 deaths. Bhubaneswar accounted for the highest number of cases, followed by Cuttack and Rourkela.
