Nayagarh, Feb 5: A police constable committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon. The incident was reported in Nayagarh district on Thursday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Sunil Sethi, a member of the 2023 batch of the Odisha Police.
According to reports, Sunil, a resident of Beruabari village under Odagaon police station in Nuagaon block, had recently been posted at the Nayagarh Reserve Police. On Thursday morning, his lifeless body was discovered on the roof of the police barracks.
Family members have alleged that Sunil was subjected to mental harassment, which pushed him towards the extreme step. They claimed that disagreements over his marriage plans created unbearable pressure.
Officials including Reserve Officer S Sushree and District Collector rushed to the spot to review the situation. Nayagarh Superintendent of Police stated in a preliminary investigation that Sunil’s suicide was linked to family opposition and disputes regarding his marriage.
