Collector’s Strict Action: Speeding With Excess Load Ends In Rs 1.76 Lakh Penalty

Balasore, Nov 25: Taking strict action against overloading, Balasore District Collector Suryawanshi Mayur Vikas Tuesday seized two overloaded 12-wheeler trucks.

The incident was reported on the Nilgiri–Panchalingeswar road when the Collector, while travelling towards Nilgiri, noticed two trucks speeding ahead of his vehicle. Later, the Collector intercepted the vehicles near Mirigini close to Nilgiri police station and seized the trucks for violating the norms of overloading.

Authorities confirmed that the crackdown was carried out in line with the Chief Minister’s strict directives to curb overloading and ensure road safety.

While the drivers of the vehicle were taken into custody, officials from the district transport and mining departments carried out further inspections.

Later, senior officials reached Nilgiri police station, verified the vehicle documents, and imposed a fine of Rs 1.76 lakh.

Authorities confirmed that investigations are underway, and the crackdown is part of a broader effort to curb overloading and ensure road safety in Balasore district.

The Collector emphasised that such enforcement drives will continue across the district to prevent accidents and illegal practices.
