The upper Barahakamuda region, located within the sanctuary, recorded a biting low of 4°C, marking the coldest temperature in the area so far this season.
The Similipal Tiger Reserve authorities released a temperature bulletin at 6 AM today, highlighting the significant drop in mercury levels across various zones of the sanctuary.
According to the report, Chahala recorded 6°C, Naana 7°C, Barehipani 8°C, Gudgudia 9°C, while Kiajhari, Ramatirtha, and Satkosia registered 13°C and 14°C respectively.
The sharp dip in temperatures is a clear indication of the intensifying winter in the region.
Forest officials have ramped up monitoring efforts to ensure the well-being of wildlife, especially in the colder zones of the sanctuary.
