Bhubaneswar, Nov 7: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi joined the nation in commemorating the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, India’s revered national song, at a special event held in Bhubaneswar.

The Chief Minister paid tribute to the song’s enduring legacy and its pivotal role in India’s freedom struggle.

Addressing the gathering, Majhi emphasised the historical significance of Vande Mataram, penned by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyaya in 1875.

He described the song as a “spiritual anthem of patriotism” that united millions during the independence movement and continues to inspire national pride."

Calling upon citizens to sing the full version of Vande Mataram with devotion and reverence, Majhi said, “Let us honor the sacrifices of our freedom fighters by embracing the spirit of Vande Mataram. It is not just a song—it is the heartbeat of our nation.”

The event featured cultural performances, mass recitations, and tributes to Bankim Chandra’s literary contributions. Educational institutions across Odisha also participated in synchronized renditions of the song.
