Bhubaneswar, Apr 20: The sacred Chandan Yatra of Lord Lingaraj will commence today with the traditional Chapa Khela ritual at the historic Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar.
The ritual, which will began at 4 PM, marks the start of a 22-day-long festival celebrated with devotion and grandeur.
During the ceremony, the Maharana servitors perform the age-old tradition of placing Lord Lingaraj on a beautifully decorated Chapa Danga (wooden boat). Alongside Lord Lingaraj, Goddess Parvati, Goddess Durga, and Lord Vasudeva also embarked on the symbolic journey across the holy Bindusagar Lake.
Devotees gathered in large numbers to witness the divine spectacle, which is considered one of the most significant rituals of the temple calendar.
The deities will be ceremonially immersed in the fragrant Chandan Kund, symbolizing purification and renewal. The boats will then sail across Bindusagar, accompanied by devotional music and chants, before returning to the temple.
