Argus News - Bus Carrying 25 Passengers Overturns in Koraput, Several Hurt

Koraput, Apr 11: Several people sustained injuries after the bus they were travelling lost control and overturned near Panchumanguda, close to Sunkhi in the early hours of Saturday.

According to reports, the bus was carrying around 25 passengers was enroute to Visakhapatnam from Bhawanipatnam. Meanwhile, at approximately 3 AM the driver of the bus lost control over the wheels and the vehicle skidded off the road. As a result the bus fell overturned and fell into a gorge.

Following the incident, several passengers sustained injuries. Of them, six persons sustained severe injuries and were immediately rushed to the Pattangi Community Health Centre for urgent medical treatment. The condition of some of the injured is reported to be critical, and doctors are closely monitoring their recovery.

On being informed, police teams from Pattangi and Sunkhi quickly reached the accident site and rescued the victims.

Preliminary investigation suggested that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle, leading to the bus overturning, though the exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.

Police have initiated a probe to determine the sequence of events leading to the accident.

In a disturbing turn of events, the driver fled the scene immediately after the crash, leaving passengers stranded and injured.

Authorities have launched a search operation to trace the absconding driver and are working to establish whether overspeeding or fatigue contributed to the accident.
