Bhubaneswar, Mar 24: In a major breakthrough against narcotics smuggling, officials at Bhubaneswar Airport seized a massive consignment of cannabis valued at more than Rs 6 crore.

The seizure took place when two passengers from Bangkok were intercepted by the Customs Department during routine checks. Upon inspection, authorities discovered large quantities of cannabis concealed within their luggage.

The two individuals, both reportedly hailing from Tamil Nadu, were immediately detained for questioning.

Officials suspect that the contraband was intended to be delivered to contacts in Bhubaneswar, though the exact network behind the smuggling attempt is still under investigation. The Customs Department has initiated a detailed probe to trace the recipients and uncover the larger syndicate involved in this cross-border trafficking operation.

Sources indicate that the cannabis was packed in a manner designed to evade detection, highlighting the sophistication of the smuggling attempt. However, vigilant airport security and customs personnel managed to foil the plan, preventing the illegal substance from entering the local market.
