BJP Spokesperson Anil Biswal Hits Back at Mahua, Says TMC Endangers National Security
Row Over Nayagarh Case Intensifies as BJP, TMC Clash on Alleged Detentions

Key Points

  • BJP’s Anil Biswal accused TMC of shielding illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators.
  • Odisha Police denied allegations of eviction or illegal detention in Nayagarh.
  • Mahua Moitra alleged four Bengali-speaking workers were told to leave despite valid IDs.
Bhubaneswar/Nayagarh, Dec 3: BJP spokesperson Anil Biswal on Wednesday accused the Trinamool Congress of protecting illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators and warned that the party’s actions have “endangered the internal security of the country,” responding to TMC MP Mahua Moitra’s allegation about the rounding-up of Bengali-speaking residents in Nayagarh district.

Biswal criticised Moitra for intervening in internal matters of Odisha. He said that Odisha Police was carrying out its duties “responsibly and effectively” and stressed that “wherever any suspicious individuals are found, strict action will be taken.”

In his 'X' post, Biswal wrote, “The Odisha government is determined to remove illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators from the state. Odisha Police is responsibly and effectively carrying out its duty. Wherever any suspicious individuals are found, strict action will be taken. It is unclear why MP Mahua Moitra has so much sympathy for Bangladeshi infiltrators. The people of Odisha do not need advice from any anti-national elements. The Trinamool Congress has always protected illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators and has endangered the internal security of the country."
He further wrote, “The people of Odisha do not need advice from any anti-national elements… Odisha matters will be understood and managed by the people of Odisha. Do not level false allegations and damage the cordial relationship between Odisha and West Bengal.”

Meanwhile, Odisha Police maintained its stand that no eviction order had been issued, and the allegations remain unfounded. Nayagarh Additional SP Subash Chandra Panda had dismissed Mahua Moitra’s charge that four Bengali-speaking Indian citizens were illegally detained and forced out of the district, calling the allegation “completely false” and saying no such persons had been identified by the district police.

Moitra, in a video posted on her official X handle, alleged the four workers were rounded up despite showing valid ID proofs and were told to leave Nayagarh within 72 hours; she said she would pursue legal action. Her full remarks and allegations remain on record.

The exchange has heightened tensions between political parties, with the BJP emphasising enforcement against suspected illegal entrants and the TMC alleging targeted harassment of Bengali-speaking residents.
