Bangladeshi Hunt Intensifies in Bhadrak District as Shocking Details Unfold

Key Points

  • Bhadrak Police launch second phase of Bangladeshi identification drive across vulnerable areas.
  • 275 suspected Bangladeshis’ documents are under verification; 10 more picked up recently.
  • Verification includes mobile checks and further cross-state confirmation with West Bengal authorities.
Bhadrak, Nov 27: Bhadrak Police have intensified the second phase of the Bangladeshi identification drive, alerting all police stations and tightening checks across vulnerable pockets. Under the ongoing crackdown, police are verifying documents of migrants, particularly in Marine Police Station in Dhamara, Kasia Marine and Chudamani Police Station limits, where cross-border intrusion has been reported earlier.

So far, documents of 275 suspected Bangladeshis are under verification. On Wednesday night, police picked up 10 more individuals from Bhadrak Town, Puruna Bazar and Bhadrak Rural police station areas on suspicion of being Bangladeshi nationals. They have been kept at a shelter, where their papers are being examined.

As several individuals failed to produce proper documents or provide clarity over their place of origin, a police team will travel to West Bengal for further verification. “We have launched this crackdown since June. The second phase is underway now. We have 10 suspected Bangladeshis and their mobile verifications are going on,” Bhadrak SP Manoj Raut said. He added that the identification exercise will continue until all cases are fully verified.

Meanwhile, police also picked up a group from Gabasahi locality in Bhadrak town. During the check, they produced documents and claimed to be from West Bengal, engaged in hawking activities in Bhadrak. Verification of their papers is underway.
