Banakalagi Niti Today: No Darshan at Shreemandir from 6 to 10 PM

Key Points

Banakalagi Niti, which translates to "the ritual of applying fresh facial paint," is performed periodically to rejuvenate the deities’ appearance.

Puri, Oct 15: Devotees visiting the sacred Shreemandir in Puri today will experience a temporary suspension of darshan of the divine Trinity—Lord Balabhadra, Lord Jagannatha, and Devi Subhadra—from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM due to the observance of Banakalagi Niti, a revered ritual in the temple’s tradition.

Banakalagi Niti, which translates to "the ritual of applying fresh facial paint," is performed periodically to rejuvenate the deities’ appearance. This sacred practice involves the application of natural colors and herbal mixtures to the idols, symbolizing divine beauty and spiritual renewal.

Temple authorities have announced that darshan will resume promptly after 10:00 PM, once the ritual concludes.
