Key Points

Baliyatra commemorates the ancient voyages of Odia traders (Sadhabas) who once sailed to Southeast Asia.

Bhubaneswar, Nov 5: On the auspicious occasion of historic Baliyatra festival, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi extended his best wishes to the people of the state, the Odia diaspora, and all those connected to the region’s rich maritime traditions.

The Chief Minister in a video posted on social media said:" Even while living on foreign soil, you have not forgotten the fragrance of our Odia land. You remain deeply connected with Odisha's art, culture, tradition and glorious heritage. In England, Japan, Indonesia and in many countries across the World where you reside, you are celebrating the glorious history of Baliyatra as a grand festival."

The CM further stated that Baliyatra stands as a shinning symbol of Odisha's maritime trade tradition.

"From the land of Kalinga, our Sadhabas once sailed to countries like Sri Lanka, Japan, and Indonesia's islands of Bali, Java, Sumatra and Borneo emerging in trade and fostering strong social, cultural and economic ties with those regions. Yet we have not forgotten that rich heritage.  Whether it is floating paper boats or performing the Boita Bandana ritual, we continue to cherish those traditions that keep our glorious coast alive in our hearts, the Chief Minister added.

The Chief Minister said "Today Baliyatra is also gaining international recognition. As Odias, no matter where we are in the world, we never forget the soil, water, air and proud history of Odisha. My sincere thanks and best wishes to all of you.
