Sonepur, April 16: A 12-hour bandh is being observed in Birmaharajpur, Sonepur district today, over the incident of tearing the photo of Lord Shri Ram during the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti procession.

According to the reports, tension reported on April 14 during a procession organised on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti where a photo of Lord Shri Ram, which was displayed on the main street of Birmaharajpur, was allegedly removed and torn.

Upset over the incident, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal demanded strict action and called for a 12-hour bandh.

Later, a complaint was filed with the local police station, and a case was registered demanding strict action against the culprits involved in this act.

The impact of the bandh was seen across Birmaharajpur. Shops, markets, educational institutions, several government and private institutions remaining closed. Vehicular movement was also affected in several parts of the area.

Meanwhile, the agitating members staged a protest on the main street of Birmaharajpur, raising slogans of Jai Shree Ram, demanding immediate action.

To prevent any unnecessary incident, police force was deployed in the area to maintain peace and security in the area.
