New Delhi, Apr 4: Several states across north India are bracing for rainfall and thunderstorms in the coming days after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) spotted a massive cloud formation stretching across parts of India and Pakistan in fresh satellite images.
The dense cloud band, nearly 1,000 kilometres wide, is clearly visible over northwest India and adjoining Pakistan, signaling the arrival of an active weather system. According to the IMD, the activity is being driven by a western disturbance—a system originating in the Mediterranean region that travels eastward towards India.
Regions Likely to Be Affected
- Delhi-NCR: Rainfall and thunderstorms expected.
- Jammu & Kashmir: Intense weather activity with rain and storms.
- Himachal Pradesh: Rainfall with possible hailstorms in higher regions.
- Punjab & Haryana: Moderate showers and gusty winds.
- Rajasthan: Scattered rainfall and thunderstorms in northern areas.
- Uttar Pradesh: Cities like Lucknow, Meerut, and Agra may see heavy rain and winds up to 60 kmph.

Meteorologists warn that such large cloud formations indicate high moisture levels and unstable atmospheric conditions, often leading to short but intense showers, lightning, hailstorms, and sudden drops in temperature.
Some areas may witness short but intense showers, along with lightning. There are also chances of hailstorms and a sudden drop in temperature, especially in plains and foothill regions.
The IMD has advised residents to remain cautious, while farmers have been warned of possible crop damage. In cities, heavy rain spells may cause waterlogging and traffic disruptions. While the showers may bring temporary relief from rising temperatures, experts caution that heat levels are likely to rebound once the system passes.
