Bhubaneswar, Apr 3: The India Meteorological Department on Friday issued a series of Yellow Warnings for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across Odisha till April 8, even as temperatures continue to remain above normal in several districts.
Thunderstorm Warning For April 4–5
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) are very likely at isolated places in Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri districts.
Weather Activity Expands On April 5–6
The impact zone will widen, with similar thunderstorm activity expected in Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Nuapada districts.
Stronger Winds Likely From April 6–7
A Yellow Warning has been issued for several northern and coastal districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj, with wind speeds likely to reach 40–50 kmph.
Other districts such as Puri, Khordha, Rayagada, Koraput, Nayagarh, Dhenkanal, Angul and Kalahandi may experience winds of 30–40 kmph along with lightning.
Widespread Impact Expected On April 7–8
Thunderstorm activity will intensify further, affecting a large number of districts including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Kandhamal, with wind speeds up to 40–50 kmph.
Several western and central districts, including Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Subarnapur, Boudh, Balangir, Koraput, Malkangiri and Nuapada are also likely to witness thunderstorms with winds of 30–40 kmph.

Temperatures Cross 40°C In Multiple Districts
Amid the storm alerts, heat conditions remain intense across the state, with temperatures crossing the 40°C mark in at least nine places.
Jharsuguda recorded the highest temperature at 41.6°C, followed by Angul at 40.7°C. Titilagarh registered 40.5°C, Bhadrak 40.5°C, Hirakud 40.4°C and Balangir 40.3°C.
Sambalpur, Paralakhemundi and Talcher recorded 40°C each, while Bhubaneswar and Cuttack reported 38.7°C and 38.4°C respectively.
