Mumbai, Jan 25: Bollywood actress Mouni Roy has made a shocking revelation, narrating an alleged incident of misbehaviour and harassment she faced during a public event in Haryana.
The actress, who enjoys immense popularity across India, especially for her iconic role as a "Naagin", shared her ordeal through a detailed social media post, expressing anger, hurt, and disappointment.
According to Mouni Roy, the incident occurred at an event in Karnal, Haryana. She stated that while she was heading towards the stage, a few people requested photographs with her. The group included families and elderly individuals, which initially made her feel safe.
However, she alleged that under the pretext of clicking pictures, some elderly men made obscene gestures and attempted to touch her inappropriately.
The actress further revealed that one of the elderly men, who was nearly her grandfather's age, placed his hand on her waist. When she objected and asked him to remove his hand, he appeared offended by her reaction. Mouni expressed that she never expected such behaviour from people of that age and background.
The situation reportedly worsened once she reached the stage. Mouni alleged that two elderly men standing in front of her continued to make obscene gestures. When she asked them to stop, they responded by throwing rose flowers at her. Feeling unsafe and humiliated, the actress briefly left the stage mid-event but later returned to complete her performance.
Mouni Roy stated that despite the repeated misconduct, no one came forward to remove the offenders.
Highlighting the seriousness of the issue, she questioned how unsafe the environment must be for newcomers or lesser-known female performers if a well-known actress like her had to face such treatment.
“I am deeply disturbed, insulted, and scared,” Mouni wrote in her post. She urged authorities to take strict action against such behaviour and emphasised that artists deserve respect, as art is their profession. She also posed a strong question to society, asking how such individuals would react if their own daughters, sisters, or family members were in her place.
Adding to her allegations, Mouni claimed that during the performance, an elderly man was recording her video from an inappropriate angle. When she objected, he allegedly abused her verbally.
Despite expressing her love for her country, its people, and traditions, the actress questioned such conduct and called for accountability. Her statement has sparked widespread discussion on women’s safety at public events and the responsibility of organisers to ensure a secure environment for performers.
