Can Toxic Become a Smashing Hit by Sunday? Yash’s ₹100-Crore Opening Faces Its Real Weekend Test

Bhubaneswar: Yash’s Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups appears to be heading towards a smashing extended opening weekend, with the film projected to collect around Rs 205 crore to Rs 215 crore India net in its first five days.

However, the box-office story has become more complicated after the film witnessed a sharp fall following its earth-shattering Rs101.10 crore opening.

The real question now is not whether Toxic will have a huge opening weekend – it already appears set for one – but whether Saturday and Sunday can prove that Yash’s latest pan-India spectacle has genuine staying power beyond its first-day frenzy.

The numbers suggest the answer could be yes.

Released on Wednesday, August 26, the film created an enormous opening-day record with Rs101.10 crore India net. But the second day brought the first shock, with collections plunging to Rs37.65 crore. That represented a steep decline of more than 60 per cent and triggered questions over whether the film's massive Day 1 had been driven primarily by fan frenzy and advance bookings.

Friday, however, may have changed the narrative.

Friday Stability Gives Toxic Its Weekend Lifeline

The Day 3 live collection of Rs19.29 crore indicates that Toxic has begun finding a post-opening base rather than continuing to collapse.

The Friday figure is still substantially lower than the first two days. Yet a Friday drop is not unusual after a massive mid-week opening, especially when a film has already consumed a huge volume of advance bookings on Day 1.

More significantly, the film now enters Saturday and Sunday – the two days that could transform a record opening into a genuinely strong five-day run.

Current projections place Saturday collections between Rs22 crore and Rs24 crore, followed by Rs25 crore to Rs28 crore on Sunday. If these projections hold, Toxic will register a clear upward weekend curve after Friday.

That would be the most significant box-office signal of the opening week.

A film recovering from Friday on Saturday and Sunday would indicate that audiences are still walking into theatres after the initial Yash fan rush.

The Rs200-Crore Weekend Is Almost Within Reach

The five-day arithmetic currently looks powerful:

• Day 1, Wednesday: ₹101.10 crore net

• Day 2, Thursday: ₹37.65 crore net

• Day 3, Friday: ₹19.29 crore live

• Day 4, Saturday: ₹22-24 crore projected

• Day 5, Sunday: ₹25-28 crore projected

This puts the film on course for an estimated Rs205 crore to Rs210 crore India net, with some projections stretching the potential total closer to Rs215 crore if weekend walk-ins exceed expectations.

For a film released on Wednesday, that would make Toxic one of the most powerful extended opening weekend performers of its time.

The film is also expected to cross the Rs250-crore worldwide gross milestone before the crucial Monday test.

Hindi Belt Is Carrying the Post-Opening Business

The most important change in the film’s box-office pattern is the growing dependence on the Hindi version after the opening-day pan-India blast.

On Day 3, the Hindi version contributed Rs14.17 crore, accounting for more than 73 per cent of the live India net collection. Kannada contributed Rs3.03 crore, while Telugu and Tamil versions together added Rs2.09 crore.

This means Toxic is now increasingly behaving like a Hindi-market-driven pan-India film.

For Yash, that could be an important long-term victory.

The KGF franchise had already established his popularity far beyond Karnataka. But Toxic is testing whether that fan base can independently sustain a film across Hindi-speaking and eastern Indian markets even after the first-day hype fades.

Odisha and Bhubaneswar Join the Hindi-Led Push

The Hindi-driven trend is particularly relevant for Odisha, where Toxic is finding its main audience through the Hindi version.

The state's Day 3 contribution is estimated at around Rs45 lakh to Rs60 lakh gross, with Bhubaneswar emerging as the key multiplex and premium-ticket hub.

Evening and night shows in the capital are showing estimated occupancy in the range of 24 per cent to 26 per cent, reflecting a relatively steady urban audience response.

For Odisha, the Yash factor remains important.

The KGF films created a strong action-film fan base for the actor, and Toxic appears to be benefiting from that established recall. A Saturday-Sunday rise could further strengthen the film's performance in Bhubaneswar and other major Odisha centres.

So, Is Toxic a Smashing Hit by Sunday?

The prediction: Yes – on opening weekend numbers, Toxic is likely to emerge as a smashing box-office hit.

A five-day India net total of more than Rs200 crore would be difficult to describe as anything else. The Friday stabilisation and the projected weekend growth are particularly encouraging after the sharp Day 2 fall.

But there is an important qualification.

A smashing opening weekend does not automatically guarantee a long-run blockbuster.

The film's mixed critical response means its biggest test begins on Monday. If Toxic suffers another dramatic fall after Sunday, its final theatrical run could become heavily front-loaded. If it holds strongly through Monday and Tuesday, however, the narrative could change from “a record opening” to “a genuine box-office blockbuster.”

For now, though, the weekend trajectory is clear.

The Yash storm may have weakened after its Rs101-crore opening blast, but it has not disappeared. If Saturday and Sunday deliver the projected surge, Toxic will enter Monday with more than Rs200 crore India net in the bank—and a smashing-hit opening weekend already secured.

The next question will be even bigger: Can Toxic turn its massive opening into a sustained blockbuster run?
