Toxic Day 2 Box Office: Hindi Version Holds Ground, Odisha Emerges as Key Eastern Market| Special Report

Key Points
Bhubaneswar: After a historic opening day, Yash’s gangster action thriller Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups saw a sharp but largely expected correction in its box office collection on Thursday, August 27, its second day in theatres.
The film collected an estimated Rs36.43 crore net across India on Day 2, taking its two-day India net collection to Rs137.5 crore, a drop of 64%.
The second-day numbers mark a steep fall from the film’s extraordinary ₹101.10 crore net opening, but the working-day correction was not unexpected after a massive first-day surge. The film’s Hindi version continued to make the biggest contribution on Day 2, while Odisha emerged as one of the stronger markets in eastern India.
According to live box-office tracking estimates, Toxic has collected around ₹137.64 crore gross in India in two days.

Hindi Version Leads Day 2 Collection
The Hindi version remained the biggest contributor on Day 2, collecting an estimated ₹8.67 crore net, accounting for more than half of the film’s India collection for the day.
The Hindi version recorded an average occupancy of around 22%, with the strongest traction coming from mass circuits and evening shows. The Kannada version, however, retained the highest occupancy levels, underlining Yash’s strong home-market pull.

The Hindi performance is particularly important because Toxic is now attempting to build a wider pan-India box-office base beyond Yash’s traditional Kannada market.
Odisha Remains Strong for Toxic
Odisha has once again demonstrated its strong affinity for Yash, riding on the legacy of the KGF franchise. Interestingly, the state witnessed a rare Day 2 phenomenon: the number of shows increased even as overall occupancy declined on a working day.
This was particularly visible in Bhubaneswar, where the number of scheduled shows jumped from 58 on Day 1 to 102 on Day 2.
The sharp increase in screen supply, however, fragmented the audience across multiple slots. As a result, average occupancy at multiplexes appeared moderate even though the film continued to attract evening walk-ins and counter-ticket sales.
The Odisha story, therefore, was not one of weak demand but of heavy programming and diluted occupancy.

Bhubaneswar: More Shows, But Occupancy Gets Diluted
The Bhubaneswar market offered the most interesting box-office trend.
Major exhibitors sharply increased the number of shows on Day 2, with multiplex chains expanding Toxic's footprint across the city. Cinepolis at Nexus Esplanade scheduled around 24 shows, while INOX properties together accounted for about 46 shows.
The aggressive expansion created a supply glut.
With the film being offered across a large number of daytime and evening slots, advance occupancy appeared relatively modest at around 15% to 18% in several multiplex windows. But spot bookings and walk-in audiences improved collections later in the day.
This means Bhubaneswar's Day 2 occupancy figures may not fully capture the actual audience interest in the film.
Single Screens Tell a Different Story
The single-screen performance in Odisha was markedly different.
Properties such as Maharaja Talkies, with a more tightly controlled schedule of around five shows, reportedly witnessed packed houses. The trend indicates that Toxic is continuing to draw a strong mass audience in Odisha, especially where exhibitors have not over-expanded the number of screenings.
The contrast between multiplexes and single screens highlights the central Day 2 issue: demand was present, but supply was spread too widely in certain urban markets.
Berhampur Leads Odisha in Occupancy
Among the major Odisha centres, Berhampur emerged as the strongest market in terms of occupancy, recording an estimated 42.5% occupancy across 18 shows.
The city generated around ₹4.1 lakh in gross revenue, with fan-driven demand helping the film maintain momentum despite the working day.
Cuttack also showed strong resilience, with 38% average occupancy and ₹6.2 lakh in Day 2 gross collections. Counter-ticket sales at legacy theatres continued to support the film.
In contrast, Rourkela, Sambalpur and smaller district markets showed moderate occupancy, although evening Hindi screenings remained steady.
Day 2 Drop Expected, Weekend Now Crucial
The sharp nationwide fall on Day 2 was expected after the film's extraordinary opening. A working Thursday, compared with the opening-day frenzy, was always likely to produce a significant correction.
The bigger test will now begin with the weekend.
Early advance booking trends for Friday suggest renewed momentum, with around ₹12.52 crore already grossed in advance sales globally. If the Hindi version gains further traction and exhibitors tighten show programming, the film could see a significant recovery in occupancy.
For Odisha, the key could be screen consolidation.
Bhubaneswar's expansion from 58 to 102 shows may have boosted availability but reduced average occupancy. A more controlled weekend schedule could create fuller houses and stronger box-office momentum.
The
Day 2 story of Toxic,
therefore, is one of a post-blockbuster opening correction. But in
Odisha, the film remains a significant draw — particularly in
Berhampur, Cuttack and single-screen markets — while Bhubaneswar's
massive screen expansion has turned supply, rather than demand, into
the main box-office variable.
