Cuttack, May 31: An alleged attempt to harass a young woman at the Bali Jatra Lower Ground in Cuttack has triggered a police investigation, with officers scrutinising CCTV footage to identify the suspects, a source said Sunday.
According to a written complaint lodged with Mangalabag Police Station, the incident took place around 7.30 pm on Saturday when the woman was riding through the Lower Bali Jatra Ground with a male relative on a two-wheeler.
The complainant alleged that a group of unidentified youths began following them before intercepting their vehicle. The accused allegedly detained the duo, questioned them and attempted to misbehave with the woman.
Fearing for their safety, the pair reportedly abandoned their two-wheeler at the spot and fled on foot. They allegedly ran through sandy stretches and thorny bushes before reaching the office of the Cuttack DCP Office and seeking help.
Police said an emergency call was subsequently made to the 112 helpline, following which a PCR team was dispatched to the area. The woman’s family members also reached the DCP office after being informed about the incident.

The complainant, her companion and family members were later taken to Mangalabag Police Station, where an FIR was registered.
Police have launched an investigation and are examining CCTV footage from the Bali Jatra Lower Ground area and near Barabati Stadium to identify those involved.
No arrests had been reported at the time of filing this report. Police said the investigation is continuing.
