Kendrapara/ Rourkela, May 31: Two persons were arrested and produced before a court in connection with an alleged rape and blackmail case involving a woman from Pattamundai in Odisha’s Kendrapara district, a source said Sunday.
The accused were identified as Nirmal Panda and Jyoti Panda.
According to a complaint lodged by the victim, the accused introduced themselves as managers of a Jatra troupe and established contact with her. They assured her that she would be assigned the role of a actress in a reputable Jatra troupe and called her to a hotel to sign an agreement. In the hotel, the complainant alleged that the two had booked two rooms, and instead of signing any documents, they started having alcohol. They also offered her a cold drink. After having the beverage, she felt dizzy and fell unconscious. The victim alleged that later, the duo had sexual relations with her and subsequently threatened to circulate videos of the incident.
The woman further accused the two men of duping Rs 2.80 lakh.
Acting on the complaint, police from Pattamundai Model Police Station detained the accused from the Balichandrapur area and arrested them following an investigation.
After medical examination and other legal formalities, both accused were produced before a court in connection with Pattamundai Model Police Station case number 233/26.
Police said further investigation is underway.
Minor Girl Gang-Raped In Sundargarh
Police detained one person and launched a search operation for another in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a 15-year-old girl under Lahunipara Police Station limits in Odisha's Sundargarh district.
According to a source, the minor had come to visit her elder sister’s house. The alleged incident took place late on Thursday night when she had gone outside.

The family alleged that two youths forcibly took the girl away and gang-raped her before leaving the spot.
Following the complaint, Lahunipara police registered a case and launched an investigation.
Police detained Tanmaya Munda for questioning in connection with the case, while efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the second suspect.
The victim has undergone medical examination, and further investigation is in progress.
