Cuttack, Jul 4: The husband of the deceased Chauliaganj Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Beauty Mohanty sought a high-level investigation into her death, saying he could not believe the incident and describing her as being under work-related stress in recent months.
Beauty Mohanty was found dead at her official residence on the premises of Chauliaganj police station in Cuttack on Saturday morning. Police said preliminary findings suggest suicide. However, the exact cause of death remains under investigation, and forensic teams are examining all available evidence.
Husband Says Wife Was Worried About Work
Speaking after the incident, Mohanty's husband, Sameer Swain, said he last spoke to her at 10:25 pm on Friday.
"I still cannot believe this happened. I spoke to her for the last time at 10:25 pm. When I called again at 11:45 pm, she did not answer. Our son was at home with my mother. She was alone at the police station," he said.
Swain said Mohanty had been under considerable pressure because of work.
"She had been very worried about work for quite some time. After serving as IIC of the Mahila Police Station, she was directed to join Nandankanan Police Station, but she declined. Later, orders were issued posting her to Chauliaganj Police Station. Although she was not willing, she accepted the posting at the request of the DGP," he said.
He added that Mohanty had shifted to the official quarters only two days earlier along with their son, while he was working in Mumbai.
"Two days ago, she moved here. I work in Mumbai. We did not have any dispute. There should be a high-level investigation into the incident," Swain said.
Brother Rejects Suicide Theory
Mohanty's brother questioned the preliminary assessment of suicide and demanded a thorough post-mortem examination.

"My sister was definitely murdered. It is clearly not a case of suicide. I noticed some black spots on her body. The post-mortem should be conducted very carefully," he alleged.
His allegation has not been independently verified, and police have not confirmed any evidence supporting foul play.
Investigation Underway
According to a police source, Mohanty was found hanging inside her official quarters after colleagues became concerned when she failed to respond to repeated phone calls. Officers forced open the door and found her unresponsive. Her body was later sent to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for post-mortem examination.
Forensic experts and scientific teams have inspected the scene, while investigators are reviewing CCTV footage, call detail records and other evidence. Statements from family members, colleagues and other relevant persons are also being recorded as part of the investigation.

Officials have said the findings of the post-mortem examination and forensic analysis will be crucial in determining the circumstances surrounding Mohanty's death.
Beauty Mohanty had earlier served at Pahala, Markatnagar and Mahila police stations before being posted as IIC of Chauliaganj Police Station. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have urged against drawing conclusions until the inquiry is completed.
