Cuttack, July 6: Police intensified their investigation into the death of Chauliaganj Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Beauty Mohanty, examining her mobile phone, social media activity, financial records and other evidence as they seek to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
Addressing reporters on the incident, Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo said a special investigation team comprising two inspectors-in-charge (IICs), an additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) and an assistant commissioner of police (ACP) has been formed to probe the case.
Digital, Financial Evidence Under Scrutiny
The DCP said Mohanty's mobile phone has been seized and sent for forensic examination.
Investigators are analysing data from the device, including social media chats, while also verifying her bank account records as part of the investigation.
Police have recorded the statements of Mohanty's husband and her two sisters. However, no written complaint has been filed by the family so far, Dnyandeo informed.
Post-Mortem Report Awaited
A special medical board conducted the post-mortem examination, and the report is expected within the next one to two days, the DCP said.
Police said the findings of the autopsy, along with forensic analysis of digital evidence, will be crucial in establishing the cause and circumstances of Mohanty's death.
Family Demands Thorough Investigation
The developments come two days after Mohanty's husband, Sameer Swain, sought a high-level investigation, saying he found it difficult to believe what had happened.
Swain said he last spoke to his wife at 10:25 pm on July 3 and that she had been under considerable work-related stress in recent months.
He said Mohanty had recently shifted to the official quarters at Chauliaganj Police Station with their son while he continued to work in Mumbai. He maintained there had been no dispute between them and appealed for a fair and comprehensive investigation.

Meanwhile, Mohanty's brother had rejected the preliminary assessment of suicide and alleged that it was a case of murder. He claimed to have noticed black marks on her body and demanded a detailed post-mortem examination.
Police have not confirmed those allegations, and there is no official evidence at this stage to suggest foul play.
Mohanty was found dead inside her official quarters at Chauliaganj Police Station on the morning of July 4 after colleagues reportedly forced open the door when she failed to respond to repeated phone calls.
