Crime in Odisha / Berhampur Police Arrest Two in Minor Gang-Rape Case

Berhampur, Mar 31: Berhampur police have arrested two individuals and sent a minor to a juvenile correction home in connection with a shocking gang-rape incident involving a 17-year-old girl in Chandan Nagar under Gosaninua Gaon police station limits.
The survivor, originally from Kadapa district in Andhra
Pradesh, had been living with her mother and stepfather after her father’s
death. According to her statement, she faced repeated physical abuse from her
stepfather, which forced her to leave home and move to Berhampur. She began
working at a tea stall near the railway station and often slept on the station
platform at night.

Recently, she befriended a 15-year-old boy from Lanjipalli Deepa
Sahi. On March 29 evening, she visited his house and later accompanied him to a
nearby open field in Chandan Nagar. There, two of the boy’s adult friends
joined them. While the minor boy fell asleep, the two men allegedly drugged and
gang-raped the girl around 10 pm.

Following her complaint, police recorded her statement and arrested the two accused men. The minor boy was sent to a juvenile correction home. The survivor also alleged that her stepfather had sexually assaulted her earlier in Kadapa. Berhampur police have coordinated with Kadapa police to initiate legal proceedings against him as well.
Berhampur SP confirmed that strict legal action will be
taken against all accused, ensuring justice for the survivor.
