Cuttack, Mar 31: A woman was detained by Lalbag police on Tuesday in connection with a fire incident near the premises of the Orissa High Court that led to multiple vehicles being gutted, our source from the ground informed.
The woman, identified as Minati Sahu from Biridi area of Jagatsinghpur district, was reportedly picked up from near the High Court boundary.
A video that has surfaced shows her allegedly approaching the spot with a five-year-old boy and setting fire using petrol and cloth. The burning material was then thrown inside the High Court boundary, which reportedly struck the wall and fell onto parked vehicles, triggering the blaze.
The fire quickly spread, engulfing a Mahindra Scorpio, two scooters and an electric vehicle. Eyewitnesses reported thick smoke and flames rising from the spot, causing panic in the area. Fire services were alerted and managed to bring the situation under control, though all affected vehicles were completely gutted in the blaze.
Police have taken the woman into custody and are questioning her to ascertain the motive at the time of filing this report. While the exact reason behind the act remains unclear, officials said the viral video provides crucial evidence in the case. No injuries or casualties have been reported.

In a separate incident, a fire broke out at Eastern Drugs India Private Limited, a pharmaceutical factory in Bhubaneswar’s Mancheswar Industrial Area, on Tuesday morning.
The blaze damaged medicines and furniture inside the premises. Three fire tenders rushed to the spot and began efforts to control the flames.
Thick smoke and fire rising from the unit created panic among locals in the vicinity. The auto driver of the factory arrived at the scene but claimed ignorance about how the incident started.
Authorities confirmed that the cause of the fire remains unknown.
