East Coast Railway Launches ‘Swachhata Pakhwada’ With Massive Cleanliness Drive

East Coast Railway (ECoR) has launched a fortnight-long Swachhata Pakhwada, running from 1st to 15th October 2024, with a focus on ensuring cleanliness across Railway Stations, trains, offices, workshops, maintenance depots, hospitals, and residential areas under its jurisdiction, officials said on Tuesday.

Bhubaneswar, Oct 1: East Coast Railway (ECoR) has launched a fortnight-long Swachhata Pakhwada, running from 1st to 15th October 2024, with a focus on ensuring cleanliness across Railway Stations, trains, offices, workshops, maintenance depots, hospitals, and residential areas under its jurisdiction, officials said on Tuesday.

This massive cleanliness drive is being carried out to create awareness and inspire collective action towards maintaining a clean and green India.

On the inaugural day of Swachhata Pakhwada, Parmeshwar Funkwal, General Manager, East Coast Railway, administered the Swachhata pledge to all staff and officers. The pledge emphasized the importance of personal responsibility in maintaining cleanliness, with employees committing to keep their premises clean and motivate the general public to do the same.

Earlier, from 14th September to 1st October 2024, ECoR celebrated Swachhata Hi Seva under the theme of "Swabhav Swachhata – Sanskaar Swachhata." The celebrations will culminated on 2nd October 2024, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, with Swachh Bharat Diwas events across the East Coast Railway network.

As part of Swachhata Pakhwada, ECoR has planned a series of large-scale cleanliness activities, focusing on engaging Railway employees, passengers, and stakeholders in sustained cleanliness efforts. These activities include:

Cleanliness Drives: Special drives at Railway stations, onboard trains, in offices, workshops, and residential areas.

• Competitions: Painting and drawing competitions themed around cleanliness to raise awareness.

• Anti-littering Campaigns: Awareness campaigns about the hazards of littering at stations and on trains.

• On-board Cleanliness: Focus on maintaining cleanliness within trains, especially in coaches, toilet blocks, and pantry cars.

• Clean Water Installations: Checks on cleanliness at water supply installations, drinking water taps, and water quality across stations.

• Feedback from Passengers: Soliciting passenger feedback on the quality of food served and the cleanliness of the premises and amenities.

The Swachhata pledge taken by ECoR employees includes a commitment to devote 100 hours annually towards cleanliness activities and to encourage at least 100 other individuals to do the same. This initiative echoes Mahatma Gandhi's vision for a clean India and underscores the need for collective action to maintain hygiene in both personal and public spaces.

East Coast Railway remains committed to its mission of achieving cleanliness across all its Divisions, aiming to inspire widespread community involvement. With the support of passengers, railway users, and the general public, ECoR is leading the charge towards a cleaner and healthier environment.

Chandigarh, Oct 8: Defying all exit poll results, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to secure a historic third term in Haryana, marking a significant achievement in the country’s political landscape.

According to the latest data, the BJP has so far won in 41 seats and is leading in eight seats out of the total 90 constituencies in Haryana, while the Congress has so far secured 31 and is leading in six.

The credit for the BJP’s stunning comeback for the third consecutive term in Haryana largely goes to Union Education Minister and BJP's Haryana election in-charge Dharmendra Pradhan.

Dharmendra’s Magic

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, a trusted lieutenant of PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, played a key role in managing the BJP’s poll strategy in Haryana.

As soon as Pradhan was appointed the election in-charge for Haryana, he set up his camp in Rohtak, Kurukshetra, and Panchkula. He met grassroot workers to gather real-time feedback, informing the leadership and promptly addressing the local issues.

Like 2019, Pradhan tactically strengthened BJP’s poll strategy and encouraging local leaders to reach out people as per party’s manifesto.

Dharmendra’s Poll Strategy

Pradhan's involvement in Haryana elections typically revolves around campaigning, addressing issues like agricultural reforms, development projects, and social welfare schemes, which resonate with the state's electorate. His strategies often aim to consolidate support among various demographic groups, including farmers and youth.

Instead of travelling in helicopter and addressing large gatherings Pradhan travelled across the state by car, organising small meetings to woo the voters.

“Double-Engine” Intact

The BJP’s poll campaigning in Haryana revolved around projecting the state’s “double-engine” government narrative, a slogan that says BJP ruling at the Centre and state will give faster development and corruption-free governance. Pradhan highlighted this slogan and rejuvenated the voters, particularly the young voters in the state.

Backing of Backward Class

Pradhan worked hard to unite the OBC leaders. He rigorously conducted meetings with village heads at early morning and sometimes at late night. He also highlighted Haryana’s move to increase the ceiling for the so-called creamy layer of other backward classes (OBCs) to Rs 8 lakh from Rs 6 lakh.

Odisha Win

Earlier this year, Pradhan orchestrated a historic win for the BJP in Odisha, defeating five-term BJD government. His hands-on approach allowed the leadership to address issues in real-time, adapt tactics, and keep the momentum going on a day-to-day basis.

Hyderabad, Oct 8: Actor Nagarjuna Akkineni along with his family arrived at Nampally special court in Hyderabad. He has filed a 100 crores defamation case against Telangana Minister Konda Surekha over her controversial comments targeting his family.

Nagarjuna Akkineni has filed a defamation case against Telangana Congress minister Konda Surekha following her remarks regarding the divorce between his son Naga Chaitanya and actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu. The complaint has been filed under section 356 Bhartiya Nayay Sanhita in the district court of Hyderabad.

On October 3, in a post on X, Naga Chaitanya shared a copy of the complaint with no caption.

The Complainant Nagarjuna submits that using the public platform available to her as a public figure, the accused, while speaking to the media on 02.10.2024, while attending Gandhi Jayanti Program made defamatory statements concerning the complainant and his family.

The complaint stated that the complainant's family, much like the complainant himself, enjoys immense reputation and respect in the eyes of the public. The complainant's son, Naga Chaitanya, is a successful and acclaimed actor in the Telugu film industry, continuing the family's proud legacy in cinema.

The Akkineni family is widely regarded for its contributions to Indian cinema, with generations of actors commanding admiration and respect. Additionally, Naga Chaitanya's former spouse, Samantha, is a celebrated actress with a significant following and an impeccable reputation in her own right.

Although their marriage, solemnized in the year 2017 and widely covered by the media, ended in a divorce due to personal differences in the year 2021, both individuals continue to be respected for their professional accomplishments and maintain a dignified public image.

The family's stature in the public eye remains undiminished, further enhancing the complainant's standing as a revered figure in Indian cinema. As such, it is submitted that the complainant and his family enjoy immense respect and admiration from his peers, fans, and the public at large. His impeccable reputation has been meticulously built over decades of dedication, passion, and excellence in the entertainment industry.

The complainant's personal integrity and professional achievements have contributed to his standing as a revered public figure. Any attempt to tarnish this reputation through false or malicious allegations not only harms his professional legacy but also deeply affects his personal life and the high regard in which his family is held. Therefore, protecting his honour and preserving his reputation is of paramount importance.

The complaint filed by Nagarjuna Akkineni includes charges of criminal defamation, which could lead to serious legal repercussions. It also contains a civil defamation suit seeking financial compensation for the harm inflicted by Konda Surekha's remarks about Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu's divorce. The complaint emphasizes the impact of the statements on the family's reputation and seeks to hold Surekha accountable.

Nobel Prize In Physics Awarded To John Hopfield, Geoffrey Hinton For Work On AI

Stockholm, Oct 8: The 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics has been awarded to John Hopfield and Geoffrey Hinton for foundational discoveries and inventions that enable machine learning with artificial neural networks, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced on Tuesday.

The two Nobel Laureates in Physics have used tools from physics to develop methods that are the foundation of today's powerful machine learning. The duo used physics to find patterns in information.

In an accompanying explanations of the research, the Nobel Prize body said that many people have experienced how computers can translate between languages, interpret images and even conduct reasonable conversations.

However, it said that what is perhaps less well known is that this type of technology has long been important for research, including the sorting and analysis of vast amounts of data. The development of machine learning has exploded over the past 15 to 20 years and utilises a structure called an artificial neural network.

Machines can now mimic functions such as memory and learning and this year's laureates in physics have helped make this possible. Using fundamental concepts and methods from physics, they have developed technologies that use structures in networks to process information.

While in machine learning the computer learns by example, enabling it to tackle problems that are too vague and complicated to be managed by step by step instructions. One example is interpreting a picture to identify the objects in it.

Hopfield created an associative memory that can store and reconstruct images and other types of patterns in data.

The Hopfield network can store patterns and has a method for recreating them. When the network is given an incomplete or slightly distorted pattern, the method can find the stored pattern that is most similar.

Meanwhile, Geoffrey Hinton invented a method that can autonomously find properties in data, and so perform tasks such as identifying specific elements in pictures.

The technology of machine learning using artificial neural networks was originally inspired by the structure of the brain. In an artificial neural network, the brain's neurons are represented by nodes that have different values.

These nodes influence each other through connections that can be likened to synapses and which can be made stronger or weaker. The network is trained, for example by developing stronger connections between nodes with simultaneously high values.

This year's laureates have conducted important work with artificial neural networks from the 1980s onward, Nobel Prize Committee said in a statement.

The reseach done by Hopfield in 1933 in Chicago is carried out at Princeton University while Hinton born in 1947 in London works at the University of Toronto.

"The laureates' work has already been of the greatest benefit. In physics we use artificial neural networks in a vast range of areas, such as developing new materials with specific properties," said Ellen Moons, Chair of the Nobel Committee for Physics. (ANI)
