Kanpur, Oct 1: On a day when India needed quick wickets to push for victory, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin orchestrated a dramatic collapse to restrict Bangladesh to 146 all out in 47 overs at Lunch on Day 5 of the second Test at Green Park Stadium.

Eight wickets fell in the extended morning session while the visitors got 120 runs in 36 overs. As a result, India need 95 runs to win the Test and sweep the series 2-0.

Resuming at 36/2, the morning session initially belonged to Bangladesh, as Shadman Islam, who crafted a composed half-century, and skipper Najmul Shanto were determined to rescue the visitors from a potential collapse.

However, it was a combination of sharp Indian captaincy from Rohit Sharma and poor shot selection that swung the match back in India’s favour.

After trying various field placements and switching bowlers, Rohit's tactical brilliance paid off when Mominul Haque fell for 2, attempting a sweep off Ashwin only to be caught by KL Rahul at leg slip.

Shanto walked in with much on his shoulders, but his stay was short-lived. The Bangladesh captain’s reverse-sweep attempt against Jadeja proved fatal as he missed the ball completely and departed for 19.

As drinks were called, Bangladesh still looked to mount some resistance. But post the break, the floodgates opened. Set batter Shadman, who had just crossed a fifty— his fourth in Test cricket, edged one to Yashasvi Jaiswal in slip while trying to play away from his body, an ill-advised stroke that compounded Bangladesh’s troubles.

Jadeja, known for his uncanny knack of breaking partnerships, struck again immediately, sending Litton Das (1) back to the pavilion. A sharp extra bounce caused Litton to glove the ball to Rishabh Pant. In the space of just 35 minutes, Bangladesh had lost four crucial wickets.

Jadeja, who had already etched his name in the history books with his 300th Test wicket earlier in the match, was once again the tormentor-in-chief. His double blow sent Bangladesh spiralling.

Mushfiqur Rahim looked to salvage their innings, but the veteran batter found himself running out of partners. Jasprit Bumrah bowled a sharp in-swinger to trap Taijul Islam in front of the stumps, reducing Bangladesh to 130/9.

Rahim with Khaled Ahmed showed some grit but it was Bumrah, who drew the last blood with the incoming yorker, dismantling Rahim on 37, who was also the second-highest run-getter for Bangladesh in the second innings.

For India, Ashwin (3/50), Jadeja (3/34) and Bumrah (3/17) shared 9 wickets equally while Akash Deep picked up a single wicket.

SIT Temporarily Halts Probe Into Tirupati Laddu ‘Adulteration’

Tirupati, Oct 1: The Andhra Pradesh Police have temporarily stopped a probe by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the alleged adulteration of Tirupati laddu, in view of the observations made by the Supreme Court, it was announced Tuesday.

Director General of Police Dwaraka Tirumala Rao said that the SIT will temporarily stall its probe as the matter is sub-judice in the Supreme Court.

"An order has come from the Supreme Court and in line with that, we have stopped the probe by SIT," the police chief told media persons.

The DGP said the SIT probe was halted till October 3 when the case will come up for further hearing in the Supreme Court. He said they would take further action with regard to the SIT probe as per the orders of the apex court.

The Supreme Court had orally asked SIT to "hold its hands" till October 3, the next day of the hearing.

The police chief said a complaint was received from Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) and considering the seriousness of the case, a SIT was constituted to probe it.

"When the case is in the purview of the apex court, it is not proper to further comment on this,” he said when reporters asked more questions on the issue.

During the last three days, the SIT probed the procurement of ghee and sampling processes. The DGP said the SIT was trying to understand how it is possible to adulterate the laddus.

"They have to first study the process and gather information," he said.

The DGP said the TTD lodged a complaint with the police after an internal inquiry. He stated that the SIT probe was being conducted in a transparent manner.

The Supreme Court had said on Monday that there is currently nothing to show that animal fat was used in the preparation of Tirupati laddus during the previous YSRCP regime in Andhra Pradesh. It said Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu should have "kept the gods away from politics" before rushing in to make public statements based on unsure facts that lard was used to prepare the laddus in the previous regime.

Headed by the Inspector General of Police, Guntur Range, Sarvashresth Tripathi, the SIT conducted its probe for the last three days. On Monday, it inspected ghee tankers and the lab at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD). The SIT spoke to TTD officials concerned about the method they adopt to check the quality of the materials they procure. They enquired about the quality check procedure followed in respect of ghee.

India Consolidate Top Spot In WTC Table With Series Win Over Bangladesh

Kanpur, Oct 1: India's 2-0 series victory over Bangladesh at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur further solidified their position at the top of the World Test Championship (WTC) standings.

With the seven-wicket win, India improved their point percentage to an impressive 74.24 while Bangladesh’s defeat dropped them to seventh position with 34.38 per cent, placing them behind South Africa and New Zealand, placed fifth and sixth respectively.

Australia with a point percentage of 62.50 sit in second place after eight wins in 12 games, followed by Sri Lanka (third), England (fourth) with 55.56 and 42.19 point percentage, respectively.

Despite rain severely affecting the game on Day 2 and 3, India’s intent to win never wavered. Bangladesh, after a start-and-stop first innings posted a total of 233 thanks to a century from Mominul Haque (107 not out).

With little time left to force a result, India adopted an exceptionally aggressive approach, treating the Test like a T20 match. The fourth day witnessed a historic onslaught from India’s batters, who dismantled Bangladesh’s bowling attack in a flurry of boundaries and milestones.

Yashasvi Jaiswal (72 from 51 balls) and KL Rahul (68 from 43 balls) led the charge, as India racked up the fastest team scores in Test cricket history. In a matter of 34.4 overs, India registered the quickest 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 in Test history, declaring at 285/9 and establishing a first-innings lead of 52.

Bangladesh in their second innings late on Day 4 found themselves in early trouble. Ravichandran Ashwin struck twice in the closing overs to peg back Bangladesh, who ended the day at 36/2. The final day was set up for an exciting finish, with India’s bowlers eager to capitalise on the momentum.

However, Ravindra Jadeja, introduced into the attack, quickly dismantled any chance of Bangladesh building momentum. In a brilliant spell, Jadeja took three wickets in as many overs.

Jasprit Bumrah, India’s strike pacer, then took over with the new ball, ripping through the lower order with a deadly display of fast bowling, ending Bangladesh’s innings at 146 and leaving India with a target of just 95 to chase for the win.

Despite the low target, India remained assertive in their final innings, making quick work of the chase. Jaiswal smashed a half-century off just 43 balls. After his dismissal for 51, it was Virat Kohli who took charge, finishing the game alongside Rishabh Pant, who scored the winning runs for India with a fine boundary.

India reached the target inside 18 overs, securing a comfortable seven-wicket victory to complete the 2-0 series sweep over Bangladesh.

Next up, India will face New Zealand in a home series as they continue their march in the WTC. Meanwhile, Bangladesh will have a chance to regroup as they prepare to host South Africa.
