In a video message to the second Global Food Regulators Summit in Delhi, the WHO chief highlighted the important role of national food regulators in harmonising regulatory policies for the world.

In addition to climate change, “population growth, new technologies, globalisation, and industrialisation" are other increasing challenges to the global food systems, Ghebreyesus said.

Further, he said food regulators also play a critical role in combating unsafe food, which causes 600 million cases of foodborne diseases and 4,20,000 deaths annually.

He also lamented that 70 per cent of fatalities from unsafe food occur among children under five.

"The food regulator community has a critical role to play in addressing these global challenges," Ghebreyesus said.

Meanwhile, stressing the need for innovative regulatory solutions, Dr Samuel Godefroy, President, the International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST) stated that food science is vital for human survival.

He also applauded FSSAI for its contribution to strengthening the global food regulatory network.

Steve Wearne, Chairperson, Codex appreciated India’s significant investment in Codex and food safety regulation. He highlighted that India is one of the few countries to host subsidiary commissions of Codex.

The Summit also launched the Food Import Rejection Alerts (FIRA) -- an online portal designed to notify the public and relevant food safety authorities about food import rejections at Indian borders.

The two-day Summit is expected to witness over 5,000 physical attendees and virtual participation exceeding 1,50,000. This includes 1,00,000 food business operators, 40,000 students and researchers, 6,000 exporters, 5,000 importers, and 3,500 food safety officers. About 2,500 food safety trainees, 2,000 laboratory officials, and 800 Food Safety Mitras, apart from participation in Indian Missions in over 60 countries will also participate.

The second session saw Bangladesh to lose wickets in a heap as they lost five more batters and are still trailing India by a huge 264 runs, even as a searing Bumrah became the sixth Indian pacer to claim 400 international wickets.

Post lunch, Siraj got a ball to hold its line and take the outside edge off Najmul Hossain Shanto’s bat straight to third slip. In the next over, Bumrah got the ball to move late and took a healthy edge of Mushfiqur Rahim’s poke to second slip. Despite relentless lines and lengths from the bowlers, Litton Das and Shakib Al Hasan ensured things went Bangladesh’s way.

In Jadeja’s next over, Shakib tried to reverse-sweep, but it deflected off his shoe and Rishabh Pant ran forward to take a comfortable catch. Hasan Mahmud and Mehidy Hasan Miraz hanged around for hitting three boundaries, before Bumrah got the former to poke at an outside off delivery and the thick outside edge was grabbed by second slip at the stroke of tea.

"Gaganyaan is ready for launch, we are trying to launch it by the end of this year," Somanath said as he visited the Space Expo in Karnataka's Bengaluru on Friday.

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the building of the first unit of the Bharatiya Anatriksh Station by extending the scope of the Gaganyaan program.

The Gaganyaan Programme approved in December 2018 envisages undertaking human spaceflight to Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and laying the foundation of technologies needed for an Indian human space exploration programme in the long run.

On Chandrayaan 4, Somanath said that ISRO has completed the engineering for the mission.

"Cabinet has just announced its (Chandrayaan 4) approval, so there will be updates in the next few months, right now we have completed the engineering, we got the approval from the Cabinet, it has to go through many layers of approvals. Chandrayaan 3 was only to go there and land softly so now to come back from the moon is equal to another one more mission. So the overall size of the satellite becomes almost double. The number of modules becomes 5 and we don't have launch capability, so we have to do with two launches. So that way, it is much more complex," the ISRO chief said while speaking to ANI.

On September 18, the Cabinet approved the mission to the moon, named Chandrayaan-4 to develop and demonstrate the technologies to return to Earth after successfully landing on the Moon and also collect moon samples and analyse them on Earth.

The Chandrayaan-4 mission will achieve the foundational technologies and capabilities eventually for an Indian landing on the moon (planned by the year 2040) and return safely back to Earth. Major technologies that are required for docking/undocking, landing, safe return to earth and also accomplish lunar sample collection and analysis would be demonstrated.

The central government has outlined an expanded vision for the Indian space programme during the Amrit Kaal that envisages an Indian Space Station (Bharatiya Antariksh Station) by 2035 and an Indian Landing on the Moon by 2040.
