Cuttack, Jun 23: A man was killed and three others injured after a Hyva truck allegedly rammed into a car on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Setu over Kathajodi river near Trisulia in Cuttack in the early hours of Tuesday, a source said.
The deceased was identified as Ajay Sahoo, who was driving the car. He died on the spot following the impact. Fire Services personnel recovered the body from the mangled vehicle and sent it to SCB Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.
According to the source, the accident took place at around 3 am when the occupants were travelling from Talcher to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.
Three other occupants of the car sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital. Among them, the person seated beside the driver suffered a head injury. A man and a woman seated in the rear suffered minor injuries, the source informed.
Police Seize Vehicles, Probe Underway
Baranga police have seized both the Hyva truck and the car and launched an investigation into the circumstances leading to the crash.
Police are examining whether overspeeding, driver negligence or other factors contributed to the accident.
Luxury SUV Gutted In Fire Near Begunia
A luxury MG Gloster SUV car was completely gutted in a fire near Chatua Chhak on the road connceting Begunia and Talatumba in Khordha district on Tuesday.
According to a source, the vehicle was travelling from Begunia towards Talatumba when the driver noticed smoke emanating from the vehicle. Sensing danger, the occupants immediately got out of the SUV.
Moments later, flames erupted from the engine compartment and rapidly engulfed the vehicle.
All three occupants escaped safely before the fire spread, the source added.

Firefighters Bring Blaze Under Control
On being informed, Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control. However, the vehicle suffered extensive damage in the incident.
