The deceased has been identified as Apsari Pradhan (60), a resident of Kanabagiri village. Two other women — Nirajini Pradhan (60) of the same village and Sasmita Mallik (35) of Dakpala village — sustained serious injuries in separate attacks during the same period.

The tragedy unfolded in the early hours, when the victims had ventured into the forested area for routine chores.

According to eyewitness accounts, Apsari and Nirajini had gone to the Srikala Ghati area to collect firewood. While engaged in their work, a wild boar suddenly charged at them. The animal’s unexpected aggression left both women severely injured.

Local villagers rushed to their aid and transported them to the G. Udayagiri Community Health Center.

In a separate but related incident, Sasmita Mallik and her husband Bapi Mallik were returning to their village Dakpala on a motorcycle from Udayagiri. Near Srikala Ghati, their bike broke down. While Bapi was repairing the vehicle, a wild boar suddenly appeared and attacked Sasmita. She sustained serious injuries before locals intervened and rushed her to the nearby health center.

The twin incidents have sparked widespread fear and concern among villagers in the region. Residents expressed shock at the ferocity of the attacks and grief over the loss of Apsari.

Officials from G. Udayagiri police station reached the site soon after being informed. They have recorded statements from witnesses and are coordinating with forest department authorities to assess the situation. The police confirmed the death of Apsari and the injuries sustained by Nirajini and Sasmita.

The forest department has been alerted to monitor wild animal movement in the area. Villagers have demanded immediate measures to prevent further attacks, including increased patrolling and awareness campaigns about wildlife encounters.
