Cuttack, Oct 21: While the city of Cuttack lit up with joy and celebration during the festival of lights — Diwali — on Monday, the day turned tragic for a few residents as two separate incidents marred the festive spirit.

In a shocking turn of events, a firecracker explosion occurred near Aparnanagar under Chauliaganj Police Station limits.

According to reports, two young men were transporting firecrackers on their scooter when an unexpected blast took place. The explosion was so intense that it startled nearby residents, prompting them to rush out of their homes.

Both victims sustained serious injuries and were immediately rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment. CCTV footage from the roadside captured the entire incident, which is now under investigation.

In a separate incident, a fire broke out in a parked car in the Dal Mill Lane area of Pithapur, Cuttack. The fire reportedly started around 10:30 PM and quickly escalated.

Locals promptly alerted the fire department, and within minutes, two fire engines and over 15 firefighters arrived at the scene. After nearly an hour of effort, the blaze was brought under control. Preliminary reports suggest that a stray firecracker may have landed on the vehicle, triggering the fire. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in this incident.
