Sambalpur, Oct 26: In a deeply heartbreaking turn of events, a woman, who had been battling cancer for an extended period, passed away, just one day after the death of her son.

The deceased, Sourav Sambit Tripathi, a resident of Bolangir, had died by suicide on Friday night. Today, the mother of the deceased youth also succumbed to her illness.

According to reports, Sourav's mother was undergoing treatment for cancer at VIMSAR (Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research), Burla. Unable to cope with the emotional turmoil of her illness, the youth ended his life after jumping into canal.

Police had yesterday recovered the victim's body from Burla power canal.

Sources close to the family revealed that Sourav had been deeply affected by his mother’s deteriorating health condition.

Neighbours and relatives have expressed shock and sorrow over the double tragedy, describing the bond between the two as deeply loving and inseparable.
