A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is forecast to intensify into a deep depression and bring heavy to extremely heavy rainfall to Odisha from September 22-26.
Bhubaneswar, Sep 20: Odisha is likely to witness heavy to extremely heavy rainfall from September 22 to 26 as a low-pressure area over the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining west-central Andaman Sea is forecast to intensify and move towards the state coast.
According to the India Meteorological Department's assessment, the system is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over the east-central Bay of Bengal by September 21. It is further likely to intensify into a deep depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal by September 22.
The system is expected to continue moving west-northwestwards and reach the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, close to the south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coast, by the morning of September 23.
There is no clarity yet on whether the system would intensify into a cyclonic storm. However, its movement is expected to bring significant rainfall to several parts of Odisha.

Orange Warning For Three Districts On September 22
On September 22, an orange warning has been issued for Gajapati, Ganjam and Puri, where very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places.
A yellow warning has been issued for Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Khordha and Nayagadafor heavy rainfall.
Red Warning Issued For Four Districts On September 23
Rainfall activity is likely to intensify further from September 23.
A red warning has been issued for Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam and Puri, where very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places.
An orange warning has been issued for Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Boudh, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Khordha districts.

Fishermen Advised To Stay Away From Sea
In view of the developing weather system and expected deterioration in sea conditions, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea from September 22 to 24.
On September 24, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Rayagada districts are under a red warning for very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places.
