Strong Kalbaisakhi activity is expected to dominate the state until June 6.

Key Points

IMD issues orange and yellow warnings for Odisha, forecasting heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds until June 6. Temperatures may rise again, bringing back intense heat after brief relief.

Bhubaneswar, May 30: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued fresh weather warnings for Odisha, predicting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across several districts over the next few days.

The remaining 17 districts have been placed under a yellow warning, with forecasts of thunderstorms, lightning, and winds between 30-50 kmph.

On Sunday, Ganjam and Nayagarh are expected to receive heavy rainfall, while Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar will remain under orange alert. Other districts including Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Khordha, Cuttack, Puri, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, and Jagatsinghpur will face yellow warnings.

IMD has also cautioned that temperatures will remain steady for the next two days but may rise by 2-3°C thereafter, potentially leading to another spell of intense heat.

In the past 24 hours, eight districts recorded maximum temperatures above 41°C, with Balangir topping the chart at 43.1°C. Rainfall activity was reported in several districts, with Sundargarh and Kandhamal recording above-normal showers.

With both heat and heavy rainfall warnings in place, Odisha is bracing for volatile weather conditions in the coming week.
