Bhubaneswar, Aug 28: A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal-north Odisha coast around August 29, under the influence of an upper-air cyclonic circulation, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The cyclonic circulation over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal-north Odisha coasts persists between 3.1 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level and tilts southwestwards with height.
The weather system is likely to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to several parts of Odisha over the coming days.
Orange Warning For Two Districts
For the 24-hour period from 8:30 am on August 28 to 8:30 am on August 29, an orange warning has been issued for Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj.
The cyclonic circulation over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal-north Odisha coasts persists between 3.1 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level and tilts southwestwards with height.
The weather system is likely to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to several parts of Odisha over the coming days.
Orange Warning For Two Districts
For the 24-hour period from 8:30 am on August 28 to 8:30 am on August 29, an orange warning has been issued for Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj.

Several parts of Odisha received light to moderate rainfall, while heavy rainfall was recorded at four places, according to the weather department.

Odisha Records Above-Normal Rainfall

From June 1 to date, Odisha has recorded 1105 mm of rainfall against the normal 807.5 mm for the period. This amounts to 27 per cent above normal rainfall.

Squally weather, with wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph and occasionally gusting to 60 kmph, is very likely along and off the Odisha coast from August 30 to 31.
Sea conditions are likely to remain rough to very rough during the period.
The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off the Odisha coast from August 30 to 31.
