Bhubaneswar, Mar 5: Odisha continues to reel under intense heat as Jharsuguda touched a scorching 39.6°C in the past 24 hours, setting a new record and becoming not only the hottest district in the state but also the first heat zone in the country this season.

According to the regional meteorological department, temperatures across northern Odisha are currently 2-5 degrees above normal. The heatwave is expected to persist for the next five days, with little change in maximum temperatures.

However, there will be some relief as weather conditions are likely to shift on March 8, bringing thunderstorms and rainfall to parts of northern Odisha.

Similarly, on March 9, districts including Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Cuttack, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, and Jagatsinghpur are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds. A yellow warning has been issued for these regions, urging residents to remain cautious.

The meteorological department has advised people to take necessary precautions against the rising heat and to stay alert during the forecasted thunderstorms.
